Welcome to ACHE

We confront cruelty and indifference every day.  Dogs chained with no water, shade or shelter, horses starved, cats tortured, animals beaten and killed.

We are aware that animal cruelty is a social issue and that animal abuse does not always occur in isolation; rather, it takes place in a complex net of disturbed family relations or in connection with other acts of violence against humans.  The nexus between animal cruelty and human violence is well documented, and our mission is not only to help individual animals but also to help break that cycle of violence.

Crimes against animals must not be tolerated.  We must give abused and neglected animals a voice.  ACHE’S mission is to investigate cases of alleged animal cruelty and neglect; to rescue, rehabilitate and give shelter to abused animals; and to educate the community in order to prevent cruelty to animals and associated domestic violence.

If we are to have success in fighting animal cruelty, education will be a crucial tool.  We must find a way to educate the community where animals are being abused and neglected and enforce the laws that protect animals.  Help us fight animal cruelty and educate our community.  Animals are protected by law in the State of Texas!

Our hope is that we will educate you, and in turn you will help an abused animal by reporting animal cruelty.  Become an advocate for abused animals, and/or donate to our agency to help us fight animal cruelty.  Our compassion, dedication and love will be the only hope abused animals have for a better life.

Horse Slaughter - Uncivilized

Horse Slaughter This past week a very graphic video was shown by The Humane Society of the United States of horses on their way to the slaughter house. LINK . It is big business for some who export the meat to countries that eat horse meat. For some it's just a place to send unwanted horses.

Educate yourself by reading some of the articles about horse slaughter and what is being done to bring an end to this horrific act. You too can help by being informed, writing your Congressman and other State Officials and asking them to support the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act (S.311/HR.503). This legislation will end the slaughter of American horses here and their export for slaughter abroad.

The Little Pit Girl

Pit Girl in suitcaseHow did this little Pitbull girl feel when she was given a home? She must have been so happy to have been rescued maybe she was a stray, maybe she got adopted from Animal Control, maybe she came from a back yard breeder? She must have been special she was micro chipped. I imagine her wagging her happy little tail because she had been offered a home, they bought her Pedigree there was an empty bag of it in the house. Was she happy because someone threw a ball for her?

They also bought her a chain and tied her in the back yard under the patio. There was a few weeks of feces surrounding her and her chain. Did she wonder then if she was as lucky as she first thought herself to be? She wagged her tail with happiness she had been adopted and given her very own home. She would be patient and be a good girl maybe just maybe they would let her back in the house. They cared enough to buy her a crate. Maybe they were crate training her in hopes of letting her back in the house when she was potty trained.

The greatness comes not when things go always good for you, but the greatness comes and you are really tested, when you take some knocks, some disappointments, when sadness comes, because only if you have been in the deepest valley can you ever know how magnificent it is to be on the highest mountain.
~ Richard Nixon, 1974
